महामार्ग वाहतूक पोलीस

महामार्ग वाहतूक पोलीस वाहतूक प्रवाहाचे नियमन, नागरिकांच्या सुरक्षिततेची खात्री आणि आपत्कालीन मदतीचा वेळीच पुरवठा सुनिश्चित करतात. ही यंत्रणा १९४८ साली राज्य वाहतूक शाखेच्या (State Traffic Branch - STB) अंतर्गत स्थापन करण्यात आली होती. मात्र, १९८९ मध्ये ही यंत्रणा बरखास्त करण्यात आली. नंतर, महामार्गावरील गुन्ह्यांना आळा घालण्यासाठी आणि सुरक्षा वाढवण्यासाठी १९९२ मध्ये महामार्ग सुरक्षा गस्त या नावाने पुन्हा कार्यान्वित करण्यात आली.

या यंत्रणेचे नियंत्रण वाहतूक पोलीस महानिरीक्षकांकडे सोपवण्यात आले. आज, ५ विभागांमध्ये कार्यरत असलेल्या ६२ वाहतूक मदत चौक्या (Traffic Aid Posts - TAPs) महामार्गावरील वाहतुकीचे व्यवस्थापन करतात. प्रत्येक TAP एका पोलीस अधीक्षकाच्या नेतृत्वाखाली कार्यरत असते. उपमहानिरीक्षक (वाहतूक) ही भूमिका १९९३ मध्ये विशेष महानिरीक्षक, आणि २००७ मध्ये अपर पोलीस महासंचालक या पदांमध्ये श्रेणीसुधारित करण्यात आली.

आमचा इतिहास

1948

State Traffic branch (S.T.B) formed and empowered to carry out cases under the Motor Vehicle Act and Bombay Police Act.

1989

State Traffic Branch was disbanded in March 1989 due to various complaints and the staff was brought under the Superintendents of Police of the districts.

1992

Highway Safety Patrol Scheme started due to increase in dacoities and robberies on the Highways, earlier Staff brought under the control of DIG (HSP).

Our Responsibilities

The Highway Police patrols 98 National and 382 State Highways (33,165 km) in Maharashtra. Their duties include assisting accident victims, guiding travelers, removing obstructions, regulating traffic, and searching vehicles involved in crimes or accidents.

They also conduct checks at public spots to prevent terrorism and register cases as per government directives.

With a focus on reducing accidents, providing immediate aid to victims, and maintaining constant vigilance, we aim to ensure safe travel.
